Crash Love

It has been recently announced that AFI’s new record ‘Crash Love’ is coming out 29th September, with the first single Medicate coming out a month or so before. As a big fan of the band, I’m really excited for the album, which bass player Hunter Burgan claims will be:

More of a rock album–more immediate and definitely more of a focused, direct approach musically.

Produced by Joe McGrath (Blink 182, Morrisey, Alkaline Trio) and Jacknife Lee (U2, REM, Weezer), I’m looking forward to the more direct rock approach of the record and also the well publicised ‘fans involvement’ with the record.

Dead Weather

The Dead Weather are a new band made up of Alison Mosshart , Jack White, Dean Fertita and Jack Lawrence. I first heard them on the radio when I arrived in Poland. My first impression of them was a long blues jam, underproduced and intentionally not commercial. White also returns to his first instrument, the drums, taking the backseat as he makes way for Mosshart’s vocals. Fans of the White Stripes beware; The Dead Weather aren’t as conventional as either The White Stripes or The Raconteurs. If you are however a fan of grungy riffs, slurred vocals and jazz drumming, then this is definitely a must have and a compelling album, albeit in a very unconventional fashion.

Panic At The Disco!

Ever since I first heard I Write Sins Not Tragedies, I’ve hated this band. The good thing is, in my opinion I should add, two members left. The band recently stated

We just wanted to let you know, that the news of Ryan and Jon leaving the band is unfortunately true. It’s been an amazing journey being in a band with them, but sometimes individual tastes take friends in different directions and you can’t ignore it. They are some of the most talented guys we know, and we’re sure that whatever they do next will be great. That said, Panic At The Disco is alive and very very well. We are working on new songs that we are excited for you to hear. Our dates with Blink and No Doubt start in a little less than a month, and we wouldn’t miss those for the world. We know everybody has a lot of questions at this point with everything being so out of the blue, most of those should be answered in the coming weeks. We appreciate every one of you, and hope you continue with us on this incredible ride.

Pay attention we have a surprise in store for you.

New ARCTIC MONKEYS single

The brand new Arctic Monkeys single ‘Crying Lightning’ is a huge departure from their previous two albums. Rather than an indie sound, it features a sludgier guitar sound more in the vein of Sabbath or Queens Of The Stone Age (not surprising as their upcoming album was co-produced by QOTSA frontman Josh Homme) and a classic rock style solo. I’m sure that many will dislike this departure, but I think it’s fantastic that they’ve taken a step forward as a band and embraced a new genre. This album should hopefully see them keep their place as the forefront of modern British rock and shows that they are not simply another ‘Indie’ band.

Tragically, Michael Jackson, the self proclaimed ‘King Of Pop’ died yesterday at 2:26 pm local time (21:26 UTC). My condolences go to his family and three children.

Fall Out Boy

According to Pete Wentz’s twitter account, Fall Out Boy may not release another album. When questioned by a fan “Can we expect a new FOB CD next year?” , Wentz replied “I’m not sure. This may be the swan song. But we might have another in us. We’ll see.” As a non fan and hater of Fall Out Boy, I’m hoping that they’ll split in order to stop polluting the airwaves with their junk. The production on their last studio album, from what I’ve heard from 2 songs, was awful! Ultimately, Producer Neal Avron commited ProTool overkill, with the album’s production sounding more suited to the Pussy Cat Dolls or Britney Spears than Punk or even most Emo. At least if Fall Out Boy stop making albums for good, Pete Wentz will have more time to appear in tabloids and celebrity magazines.
